The World Equestrian Games...and Other Things Horse
For the first time the United States was host to the World Equestrian Games, the Olympics of equestrian sports. Our hometown hosted this incredible event in October. The local schools embraced the occasion, first with the design and creation of foals (Elementary and Middle) and full scale horse statues (High School), as part of a program called "Horse Play". Liberty's was named "Liberty Belle", and was on display at our local library.
Similar to Horse Play, was Horse Mania, which included dozens of full scale horse statues from businesses in the community. Here are a few of our favorites...
This design was decorated entirely with shells! Even the horse's mane was made of strings of shells. I think this was the girls' favorite...
Julianne was a fan of this one, which stood among the Farmer's Market booths which we visited many Saturday mornings in the summer.

The students have also been working on artwork and writing pieces with the horse theme. Kaylea's art was on display at school:
And Julianne's writing entered her in a drawing for free grounds passes to the Horse Park for the Equestrian Games, and she won!! We spent the first day of Fall Break at the games, and it was an amazing experience.
We saw the US vaulting team as they warmed up for their competition. This event was of particular interest to the girls, as it involves gymnastics on horseback. They ended up winning first place!
We caught a game of Polocrosse, which was thrilling to watch!
Pony rides, and daring rides on a mechanical horse that ran on a track. We're not sure which one they enjoyed the most.
